Matsumoto has a kouchi in her arsenal of techniques but it's not
kouchi-gari. Rather, it's kouchi-gake and she does this only in an
ai-yotsu (right vs right) situation. It can't be said that this is a
favorite technique of Matsumoto as she does this rather infrequently.
It's more of an opportunistic attack, when she is faced in a touch
ai-yotsu situation, she will attack the leading leg with this hooking
Kouchi-gake is not a common technique but it was made popular
in the early 90s when Hirotaka Okada used it to great effect when winning the 1991 World Judo Championships with it.
