South Korea sends relative unknowns to Chelyabinsk

This just in from 100 Percent Judo: South Korea's line up for the 2014 Chelyabinsk World Judo Championships.

Missing from the men's roster are double World Champion Wang Ki-Chun and Olympic Champion & double World Champion Kim Jae-Bum.

No doubt Wang has been off form in the past year and Kim has not been very active since winning the 2012 London Olympics gold medal. But still...

If you look at the roster posted by 100 Percent Judo, you'll see that practically all the players -- male and female -- are relative unknowns.

Is this to give the new players exposure? But through the World Championships? Wouldn't it make more sense to give them exposure through the IJF World Circuit events?

Still, the depth and breadth of judo talent in South Korea is such that even their unranked players are probably serious contenders for medals if not the gold medal.

Who knows, some new stars might emerge from this. We'll see.
